Reasons for lack of men in the work force leads last months readership

The top read article for the last 30 days published on Funeral Director Daily dealt with, not only the loss of men in the funeral service workforce, but the loss of men in the workforce in general.  We’ve all seen many more women in funeral service over the past decades but what about the participation rate of men in the workforce in general?

Over the last several years, men in the 16-64 age category who are available for work and are working has dropped from a number of 87.4% to 67.7%.  That means a full 1/3 of men who could be working in the United States seem to choose not to.  What’s behind that statistic was the premise of the article entitled “Where have all the Men gone?”

Here are the Top 5  “Overall” read articles in the past 30 days on Funeral Director Daily:

  1. Where have all the men gone?
  2. The opportunity for the “Not so Big” funeral businesses across North America
  3. The FedEx strategy shift. . . where do funeral homes go?
  4. “Big Funeral” and some thoughts on “Universal Death Care”
  5. Catching up with Alkaline Hydrolysis

Facebook ReadersFuneral Director Daily is now able to get some data about who our Facebook followers are.  In general, we believe they are a higher percentage of women than our “overall” readers which include e-mail and Twitter accounts.  We also know that 53% of them are under the age of 45 and we believe our e-mail and Twitter readers are an older and more management demographic.  We believe that our Facebook followers are more employees and students than our overall readers.  Because of what we deem those differing demographic characteristics, they seem to have a set of interests than our other readers.

Here are the Top 5 articles for the same time period for our Facebook followers:

  1. The vaccine mandate. . your business, your employees.
  2. Acquisition vs. Retention.  . . .where to concentrate.
  3. Natural organic reduction now operating in Colorado.
  4. Where have all the men gone?
  5. Don’t let inflation leave your business behind.

Interesting Trivia — Put this in the category of “My, how things can change”.  I read today that today is the anniversary of the first Blockbuster Video store opening in 1985. . only 36 years ago.  The franchise chain grew to over 9,000 locations and today only one store survives — in Bend, Oregon. . . . . Here is a story on that store.
