CANA convention will feature “Quick take on Current Issues” panel

The Cremation Association of North America (CANA) will soon be convening their 105th Cremation Innovation Convention in Washington D.C. from August 9-11.  The organization composed of members from the funeral home, cemetery, crematory, supplier, and consultant world will feature a roster of outstanding individuals and topics in their learning workshops throughout the convention.

One such session will be a three-part session that is titled “Regulate, Recruit, and React:  A Quick Take on Current Issues“.  This session will feature:

Caressa Hughes  — CANA President and Assistant Vice President of Government and Industry Regulations for Service Corporation International.  She will be focusing on the Regulatory landscape of death care.

Jim Price —  Immediate past Chairman of the ICCFA Educational Foundation and Senior VP of Industry Relations at Park Lawn Corporation.  He will be focusing on staffing shortage concerns.

Scott Smith — past president of CANA and Texas Funeral Directors Association.  He will be focusing on the “React” role of funeral homes and funeral directors when a crisis hits their community.

And, that is just one of the great learning sessions from CANA.  Here’s the presenters and titles of some other sessions being offered at CANA’s 105th get-together:

Blocked, Burned Out, Blase — presented by Brent Patterson and Glenda Stansbury.  This session will feature strategies to engage your staff and help them grow as professionals.

Targeting with Data —  presented by Eric Layer.  Mr. Layer will present data collected over several years that will give funeral businesses thoughts on the preferences of disposition, memorialization, and more.  Eric Layer is also the author of the book, “The Right Way of Death”.

Why Mentoring Matters — presented by Lisa Baue.  Ms. Baue presents seven essential components of mentoring and why that matters to both employers and employees.

Responding to Suicide Death and Recognizing Suicide Risk —  Presented by Dr. Sara Murphy.  This session will be helpful knowledge for professionals to know both with the families they serve and the professionals they work along side of.

Built to Last — Presented by Dan Cassin, Bryan Mueller, and Cole Waybright.  This session will show how some are breathing new life into cemeteries.
