Tidbits from my desk. . . including news you can use

As Funeral Director Daily becomes a more popular medium read by more and more death care insiders, I also receive more and more news from funeral home and cemetery interests.  It becomes impossible, in a one-topic per day blog, to feature each and every bit of information I receive.  So, in an effort to get more and more relevant information to our readers, I’ve chosen this randomly published forum to disseminate that information.

Today, we have interesting podcasts that feature Recompose founder Katrina Spade on NPR, we bring you Certified Thanatologist Dr. Sara Murphy discussing “Dis-enfranchised Grief” from the Deathcare Decoded podcast, and we bring you the latest in the NFDA podcast series, “A Brush with Death” which features three funeral directors and what they have learned recently on the Internet.

Here is a 15-minute podcast with Recompose founder Katrina Spade that was featured on National Public Radio.  If you would rather read than listen, the entire transcript of the interview can be found here also.

Here is a podcast from Deathcare Decoded that features Dr. Sara Murphy.  Dr. Murphy is a death educator, Certified Thanatologist (Association for Death Education and Counseling), and suicidologist with fifteen years of scholarly, pedagogical, and professional experience in the field. In this conversation  disenfranchised grief is discussed.   What it is, what causes it, and everything that funeral professionals need to know to help families avoid it. Participants talk about body language and verbal cues that will help families feel safe and comforted during funeral arranging, and touch on the importance of funeral directors prioritizing their own mental health while working with grieving families.

Produced and Hosted by and Alexandra Jo, Content Manager at Parting Stone, and Co-Hosted by Justin Crowe, Founder & CEO of Parting Stone.

Here is the latest podcast from the National Funeral Director’s “A Brush with Death” series.  This episode features Gabe Schauf and his guests Ryan Ballard and Brian Waters, hosts of Undertaking the Podcast. These three podcasters talk about how funeral directors are utilizing the exchange of information on the internet.

Here is information on NFDA’s Virtual Job Fair.  If you are looking for a job in funeral service, looking to move up in funeral home management, or just want to connect with others in the death care profession, this virtual job fair, that is free for all job seekers, is a must.  It will be held virtually on April 26, 2022.
