Franklin Funeral: Former funeral home families disturbed about “Revoked” Director at Funeral

Not long ago the Aretha Franklin funeral was held in Detroit.  In an article and news clip that you can read and see here from WXYZ of Detroit, many former clients of the Swanson Funeral Home are wondering why O’Neill Swanson II gave interviews to CNN, Entertainment Tonight, and even to Action 7 News about “being the funeral director and providing a ceremonial tribute like this” as they were under the impression that Mr. Swanson II has had his funeral director’s license revoked.

According to the article, one former client, Patricia Williams, claimed she received ashes that were not her mother and says that O’Neil Swanson II would never give her a straight answer as to her mother’s remains whereabouts.  Williams was one of the nearly 100 complaints against Swanson that the state licensing division has been investigating.

Again, according to the article, Swanson II’s license was revoked in April.  Additionally, according to the article, the state fined Swanson $34,100 and he has only paid $5,000 of that fine that was due last May.  Authorities also state that there are approximately 54 sets of open complaints against O’Neil Swanson II and the license for Swanson Funeral Home.
