Bodies found at the Alamo. . . thefts of bronze vases

The Alamo in St. Antonio, Texas, was the site of the famous “Battle for Texas Independence” back in 1836.  It was a 13-day epic battle with the forces of the Mexican nation and where it is believed that Texas pioneers and frontiersmen Davey Crocket and Jim Bowie met their mortal fate.

What many people don’t realize was that the Alamo was a church or a mission on the Texas frontier at the time.  It is in the middle of a $450 million renovation and makeover that will take up to five years to complete.

Work was halted last week, however, when excavation revealed the remains of three individuals beneath the monk’s burial room and the nave.  According to this article from the New York Post excavation revealed the remains of an infant, a young adult, and an adult.

Remains were also found in excavations on or near the site in 1995 and 1989.

The Price of Bronze — Researching this article I checked and found the scrap price of bronze to be $1.45 per pound.  It is the Christmas season and most people are interested in reaching out and helping those who need help and celebrating the Spirit of the Season.  However, I have noticed numerous articles about the theft of bronze flower vases from cemeteries at this time also — not so much in the Spirit of the Season.

Just a thought process that maybe cemeteries need to be more vigilant in telling lot owners about this prospective problem.

Here are a couple articles from the midwest on these types of thefts.
