Trump Tucks Cemeteries and Columbaria into Veterans’ Affairs Budget

According to an article in the New York Post that you can read here, President Donald Trump’s respect and honor for the United States military does not end with those veterans who are serving today.  According to the Post article, the Veteran Affairs portion of the proposed Trump budget calls for nine new veterans cemeteries to be opened in 2019 and 2020.

Of those nine cemeteries, three would be unique columbaria only locations to be situated in Queens (NY), Indianapolis, and Los Angeles.  These cemeteries would be smaller and constitute the first wave of cremation only locations.  Again, according to the Post, the columbaria only cemetery in Queens would be situated at the existing Veterans Administration St. Albans Community Living Center after two buildings would be demolished.

These new proposed cemeteries would bring the Veterans’ Administration closer to their goal of providing 95 percent of the veteran population a burial option within 75 miles of their homes.

Funeral Director Daily take:  It is a good thing that more veterans have the option of being buried closer to home.  This is the first I’ve heard of the all cremation cemeteries for our nation’s war heroes.  It certainly reflects and amplifies that we have really crossed that bar of earth burials vs. cremation disposition when even our federal government recognizes the trend.
