Thanks to our readers, Funeral Director Daily keeps growing

As we turn the calendar to August it reminds me that last August we had some technical difficulties with Funeral Director Daily that caused major consternation on my part.  At the end of the day, with some help of some very good technical people, we were able to put out an improved delivery product, but did lose about 20 percent of our subscriber e-mail list in the meantime.

Luckily, a lot of those people who were inadvertently dropped as subscribers found their way back to our subscription list and we began growing again.  Since that time a year ago our Follower/Subscriber list has grown to 2,260 people from 1,858 a year ago. . . that’s a 21.6% increase.  Our Followers/Subscribers come from Direct E-mail -1115 subscribers, Twitter – 520 followers, and Facebook – 626 followers.

Also, the Funeral Director Daily page views last August totaled 9,093 for the month whereas our latest 30-day rolling period showed 12,196 for growth of over 34%.  Page views fluctuate somewhat depending on the interest of recent articles, but the growth over the long-term is evident.

Finally, in addition to some better security and delivery methods we have some insight from Monster Insights on our readership.  From Monster Insights we know that on any given day 60% of our article readers come from outside our Subscriber/Follower base.  These readers probably pick up articles from search engines and some become subscribers.  40% of our daily page views come from our Subscriber/Follower base.  The average subscriber reads about 2 articles per week.

We also know that of our readers 50% read from Mobile device, 48% from a Desktop or Laptop computer, and 2% from a tablet of some sort.  A high percentage from a computer indicates to us that a large portion are accessing our articles at work.

From Facebook we know the following about those followers:

  • 51% are Women, 48% are Men
  • 77% are between 25-54 years of age
  • 15% are between 55-64 years of age
  • 6% are 65 years of age and older
  • 2% are between 18-24 years of age

From a personal perspective I’m flattered that people are interested in what I have to say about a myriad of subjects.  I worked on the front lines of funeral service for over 33 years and enjoyed being there when my community needed me.  I’ve also been able to have had other business interests and opportunities that have given me a much bigger perspective on business than operating a funeral home was able to.

Thank you for continuing to read my reports.  I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoy writing them.
