Be the “Light” this Christmas season
The “darkest day of the year” in the northern hemisphere occurs on December 21-22 each year. It is known as the “Winter Solstice” and the sun shines the least during that time period in the northern hemisphere than at any other 24-hour period of the year.
Well, today happens to be December 22. . . when this morning will put an end to that long darkness.
It’s been interesting this year for me. It seems that so many things I think about portray darkness. . . .the world at peace is surely not happening, American politics are a messy situation, finances and inflation for many are causing dark days. . . . .be reminded, however, that into dark days and nights a little over 2,000 years ago a bright star beamed announcing the birth of The One who would turn the darkness into the light of truth.
In an imperfect world, has come a “Perfect Savior”. . . . . and while we wait for that Savior to come again He has given us the ability to help bring that “Light” to others. Join me this Holiday season in bringing “light to a dark world” by practicing part of what St. Francis of Assisi preached:
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me bring love.
Where there is offence, let me bring pardon.
Where there is discord, let me bring union.
Where there is error, let me bring truth.
Where there is doubt, let me bring faith.
Where there is despair, let me bring hope.
Where there is darkness, let me bring your light. . . . . . .
Do your little part this Holiday season to help illuminate someone’s darkness. They will be better for it, mankind will be better for it. . . . . . . and you will be better for it.
Again, therefore Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world; he who follows Me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
- John Chapter 8, Verse 12 (New American Standard Bible)
