Mortuary Science Student signs to play Hockey at Michigan State

This article does not have a great deal to do with the business of death care, but when something good happens to people in funeral service we think it is okay to tell our colleagues.  Tawas (Michigan) Area High School Senior Mason Buresh recently signed to play hockey in the Big Ten for Michigan State University.  According to this article in the Iosco News, Buresh scored 144 goals and assisted on 169 others in the last three years which helped draw attention from many NCAA hockey schools.

Mason Buresh told the newspaper that he plans to study physiology and later mortuary science.  His father, Matt, is the 4th generation operator of the Buresh Funeral Home and Cremation Centers which have six locations in Michigan.  The business was founded in 1897 in Detroit.

According to the article, Mason Buresh is also Tawas Area High School’s valedictorian.  Mason was quoted in the article, “There has been an incredible amount of sacrifices that people have had to make for me throughout the years.”

Funeral Director Daily take:  Congratulations Mason. . . it is always great to see young people pursue their dreams.  I wish you all of the luck in the classroom and on the ice in the future!!

I was a youth and high school hockey dad just as your dad was and I think it is great that you recognize the sacrifice that your parents went through to get the talent within yourself developed.
