A Great Partnership at Southern Illinois University

I just saw an article that you can read here about a donation by Mid-America Transplant Foundation to the University of Southern Illinois department of Mortuary Science and Funeral Service embalming lab.  The $98,000 donation brings to a total of $134,400 that the foundation has contributed to the school in support of the Mortuary Science and Funeral Service program.

According to a spokesman from Mid-America, “As funeral home professionals, these students have the ability to impact thousands of lives during their career’  . . We are grateful for the role funeral home professionals play in their communities and for their support of the organ and tissue donation process.”

Funeral Director Daily take:  This is a great gesture by Mid-America Transplant Foundation in the education of our young professionals.  Many times we forget the role that funeral service plays in getting vital donated organs and tissues to those in need through these non-profit foundations.

Many times I remember the delayed embalmings and extra work that went into an organ donor by our funeral directors.  It is nice to see Mid-America saying “Thanks” for that help.

And we all know about the shortage of funeral service professionals in our ranks.  The donation to a program of mortuary science has the opportunity to help all of us by putting more qualified people in the field.

Death care industry companies need to understand that without having top-notch talent enter our profession we are bound to slip in our service to the public.  Donations to accredited mortuary science schools is a great way to help your own business far into the future.
