Working for the Weekend. . . .

As we finish up the work week and head into the weekend here are a couple of stories that we really didn’t get a chance to present that we though you might be interested in. . .

  • Park Lawn Corporation provided a secured loan of C$ 6.2 million to a funeral home operator to buy a funeral home where the loan is convertible into equity of that funeral home upon maturity. . . . Read about it here.

  • The morticians in the country of Ghana have set Tuesday, November 20 as a date to strike unless wages and working conditions are improved.  They are part of the country’s health ministry.  With Ebola again looming in some African countries this is a worrisome thought.  Read about it here.

  • The University of New Mexico will today confer Honorary Degrees on Chester French Stewart and his wife, Diana French Stewart.  They have been owners of the French Funerals and Cremation Services in Albuquerque and through their philanthropy have provided assistance to numerous individuals with housing, financial support, and encouragement.  You can read about it here.

  • I always like to see something like this.  It always reminds me that the nicest people work in funeral service.  This article is about the Moss Service Funeral Home of Alabama.  It is an article noting that they won the Better Business Bureau of Northern Alabama award for “Ethics in Business”.  Good for them and the positive vibes they can give for funeral service in their area.  You can read about it here.
