Wilbert, Park Lawn make acquisitions

We’ve mentioned that many death care companies are intent on growing and right now many seem to have the cash-flow to fuel those acquisitions that lead to company growth.  Just last week Wilbert, Inc. announced an acquisition of a molding and finishing manufacturer who produces casket hardware, automotive/transportation components, and other consumer products.

On the same day of that acquisition announcement, Park Lawn Corporation, a public company involved in Death Care mainly in the consumer funeral and cemetery businesses, announced an acquisition of a funeral home in North Carolina to their growing network of funeral homes and cemeteries.

Wilbert announced the acquisition of certain assets of Carrera Manufacturing located in Portland, Indiana.  Here’s what Mark Bates, President and CEO of Wilbert said of the acquisition, “This transaction supports Wilbert’s continued growth strategy and ongoing investment in complementary products and services benefiting funeral professionals and the families they serve.  Carrera joins Astral within our Casket
Division and going forward will do business as Astral Molding & Finishing.”

Don Robinson, President of Wilbert’s Casket Division made the following comment, “Astral Molding & Finishing will not only support our internal demand but will continue to support the hardware requirements for a range of other casket manufacturers in North America.”

Park Lawn Corporation (PLC) and its subsidiaries own and operate businesses including cemeteries, crematoria, funeral homes, chapels, planning offices and a transfer service.  PLC operates in three Canadian provinces and sixteen U.S. states.  With this press release issued last week they announce that the company has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire substantially all of the assets of Hudson Funeral Home & Cremation Services,  a business consisting of one stand-alone funeral home located in Durham, North Carolina.

J. Bradley Green, CEO of Park Lawn Corporation is quoted as saying this in the press release, “The addition of the Hudson business further expands PLC’s footprint in North Carolina and allows us to enter the high growth markets of Durham and Raleigh.  With over 100 years of dedicated service to its community, Hudson will be an excellent addition to our existing North Carolina businesses.”

According to the press release, Hudson Funeral Home consists of one stand-alone funeral home that most recently serviced 341 annual calls and will add an approximate $832,000 of EBITDA to Park Lawn’s finances.
