West Virginia House Moves Indigent Funeral Bill Along

By a vote of 65-33 the West Virginia House passed on Wednesday their Indigent Funeral Bill that will now move on to the state’s Senate.  The somewhat conroversial bill reduces the price paid to funeral directors to $1000 per service from the current payment of $1250.

However, the bill also names disposition by cremation as the preferred method which would help reduce funeral directors costs for care of the indigents.  The reduction in the service amount would allow the state to help 400 more families annually.  The state has annually appropriated $2 million for indigent funerals and has ran out of resources to pay for such by the 8th or 9th month of each of the past 6 years.
