Muslim Cemetery moving forward in North Texas

A release from the Associated Press announced that the community of Farmersville, Texas, some 35 miles northeast of Dallas and a community of 3500 residents is square in the cross-hairs of America’s issue with the Muslim religion.

On Monday night a group led by Shamsur Rahman moved a step closer to getting permission from the town council to establish a cemetery in Farmersville so that local Muslims have a local cemetery. The Islamic Association of Collin County wants to develop 32 acres for a burial site. Muslim leaders say that there are 5 Muslim cemeteries in North Texas but they have little remaining space. The Farmersville cemetery, if it receives final approval, would have about 15,000 grave spaces.

Many local residents spoke in opposition to the proposal.

The next step in the approval process would be renderings of the cemetery and a public hearing before any final approval would be granted.

Funeral Director Daily take: This will be interesting to watch play out. There is no argument that immigration and religious issues are highly sensitive issues right now in America.
