Funeral Rites Fit for a King

King Bhumibol Adulyadej
Cremation Structure

In our profession it is interesting to note what kind of funeral rites are held around the world.  One year ago today, on October 13, 2016, the King of Thailand, King Bhumibol Adulyadej died.  Since that time plans have been made for a Royal Cremation for the nation.

Prior to the Royal Cremation, the King’s body will have lied in state in the Dusit Mah Prasat Throne Hall of the Grand Palace for a period of one year.  The Royal Cremation is held 13 days after the 1st anniversary of the King’s death.  Since the King died on October 13, 2016, elaborate plans have been made for the cremation to be held on October 26, 2017, in the Sanam Luang Plaza.  In addition, a pavilion in the public square for the purpose of the cremation has been constructed.

Here is a page from Wikipedia that describes the funeral rite process for the King.

Funeral Director Daily take:  As I said earlier, it is interesting to see how different cultures provide rites for those in high standing among their people.  I’ve read articles that have even stated that airlines have added flights to and from Thailand for the cremation ceremony for those natives who want to be in attendance.
