Crowdfunding. . . and funerals. . . growing?

Over the past couple of years Funeral Director Daily has written some articles on the idea of going to a mass funding site to pay for funeral expenses.  We don’t know much about this, but we do know that it is a growing phenomena – not only with funerals – but with other large expenses incurred by families who seemingly don’t have the funds to pay for what they need. . . or want.

Here is a recent article we read just yesterday about an Illinois women who is stricken with cancer and will, unfortunately, more than likely face funeral expenses down the road.  The article, from the Chicago Tribune notes that she has already raised twice the amount that she will need for funeral expenses.

We provide this story sharing no opinions but the thought process of how funeral service will change if providers are paid through a crowdfunded source.  . or will it change?

Here are two other stories that we have carried on crowdfunding and funerals in the past.

Have you encountered counties declining county assistance for burial/cremation if their is any type of crowd funding? We have, twice. Seems interesting the county declines for crowd funding, but doesn’t confiscate memorial gifts/money.
