Having been through this, one thing to keep in mind is to do all you can to prevent the firefighters from turning a hose with cold water toward the open door of the crematory. The extremely hot surfaces can react explosively to the sudden change in temperature. When the assistant chief of the fire department arrived on scene he saw that this was done and remarked to all the firefighters present that putting cold water into contact with extremely hot refractory adds a level of danger best avoided.
