Memorial Day 2026 — “Freedom isn’t free”

As we stop today to reflect on the memory of not only our military personnel from the Revolutionary War on, we remember that the holiday was officially started to pay respects to those who fell in action during the Civil War.

Over time we realize that the Memorial Day holiday has moved into honoring all military personnel from any conflict and note that what was originally restricted to honoring Civil War losses, was expanded after World War I.   It now honors all American men and women who have died in any military conflict.

Furthermore, while intended to honor our military dead, it has become an unofficial remembrance to many of us who use the day to remember all who have gone before us.

For Funeral Director Daily readers I’ve linked two short video presentations that you might be interested in viewing.  The first is a short-clip from the National Cemetery Administration (NCA) featuring current United States Undersecretary of Memorial Affairs and Purple Heart recipient Samuel Brown:

The second video that I discovered is titled “May we never forget that Freedom isn’t free” and is brought to us by Oklahoma’s McAffee & Taft Law firm.  It features some of President Ronald Reagan’s quotes on Memorial Day 1982 from Arlington National Cemetery.

May God continue to bless the United States of America.

Enjoy the day. . . . Honor America.
