Memorial Day 2024: Honor our Vets
When I was looking for material for a short Memorial Day piece I came across this website of the American Battle Monuments Commission which lists and shows, with pictures, all of the American cemeteries across the world that our county maintains in order to let our Veterans, and those that loved them, always know our nation cares.
The American Battle Monuments Commission administers, operates and maintains 26 permanent American military cemeteries and 31 federal memorials, monuments and markers, which are located in 17 foreign countries, the U.S. Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and the British Dependency of Gibraltar; four of the memorials are located within the United States. These cemeteries and memorials, most of which commemorate the service and sacrifice of Americans who served in World War I and World War II, are among the most beautiful and meticulously maintained shrines in the world. You can see all of them here.
Memorial Day is always America’s entry into the Summer season but don’t forget why it is a holiday and what it stands for. Among your other activities. . . Remember to thank a veteran today!!
