Illinois Funeral Home Celebrates Earth Day

A vendor talks with Earth Day attendees at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home

An Illinois funeral home used a simple, but effective, way to showcase their commitment to the environment during an Earth Day celebration  last Saturday.  According to an article in the Quincy, Illinois based Herald-Whig, Quincy based Hansen-Spear Funeral Home held their first “Celebration of the Living Green” on Saturday afternoon.

The funeral home, who has previously showed their concern for the environment by providing the means for a seedling to be planted, in memory,  for every family they have served in protected forests across Illinois, worked with  the Lofty Oaks Foundation on Saturday.  Will Spear of Hansen-Spear Funeral Home said the day allowed the funeral home to provide every attendee with a spruce seedling to plant in their choice of location.

The funeral home, which held the event in their parking lot, also provided free space to vendors in the “Green” industry.  Attendees had the opportunity to visit with businesses about gardening or things such as bee pollination.  Vendors appreciated the chance to talk to the community about their goods and services also.

Funeral Director Daily take:  Again, another great idea at a low cost event that will be an effective marketing and branding tool for a local funeral home.  I learned, over time, that connecting with my community was one of the great builders of our business over the years.  Consumers truly appreciated the efforts to do things such as Memorial Day gatherings, Christmas times of remembrances, grief seminars, and the like.

A celebration of the environment will certainly touch some in the community as more now than ever embrace things such as recycling and “going green”.  So, kudos to the folks at Hansen-Spear for thinking of this way to bring in potentially “non-traditional” new clients into their tent, so to speak.

As the millennial generation is more of an influencer on where and what type of funerals/memorials will take place, one can see more public relations events such as this happening.[wpforms id=”436″ title=”true” description=”true”]
