The NFL “Fan Experience” will soon include cremated remains permanent placement

This recent article from the Jacksonville Daily Record makes note that the new Jacksonville Jaguars’ football stadium that will be the home of that franchise in the National Football League (NFL) has agreed to partner with Eternal Fan to create what is called the “904EVER Club” at the stadium.
According to the article the “904EVER Club” is designed “to create a monument in or near the team’s ‘Stadium of the Future’ in which fans can place their cremated remains, gear and other personal items to memorialize themselves and their passion for the NFL franchise”.
Eternal Fan is based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and is a business founded by Matt Linn, a funeral home owner in that community. Again, according to the linked article, “Linn started Eternal Fan as a way to combine the mortuary business and sports”.
This will be the second Eternal Fans memorial at a major stadium complex. The first is the “Fan Loyalty Monument” at the Richmond Raceway in the state of Virginia. The columbarium on that site includes 125 “fan spaces” or columbarium niches within a 21 foot specially designed racing themed columbarium.
Related information — Eternal Fan, whose website can be accessed here, also announced earlier in May “an expanded partnership with The Wilbert Group and its Memorial Monuments Division to establish a new, scalable sales channel across the state of Florida. The initiative will leverage Wilbert’s extensive network of licensed home operators to introduce Eternal Fan’s fan-focused memorial offerings, including the 904EVER Club, to families seeking meaningful, lasting ways to preserve legacy and identity.”

You can read a press release from Eternal Fans on that partnership here.

Funeral Director Daily take: There is bound to be some level of cynicism about this kind of permanent, lasting memorial. However, I see it as part of a continuum of varying options for those who are trying to give reason tying their lives to their personal memorialization. And, I also think giving NFL and racing fans this type of choice is simply part of the American way . . . . . .that is offering what potential clients may want to purchase.
There’s an initiative trying to get cremated remains out of closets and off mantels into permanent placement for posterity’s sake. If we can make the options for permanent placement more in line with one’s living passions maybe that is a step forward in helping get that accomplished.
I think that NFL stadiums and NASCAR racetracks may only be the start of this trend. And, we may very well find out that premium prices will be paid by those who want these options that would probably carry limited availability.
Related idea — Here’s an article from 2024 when a member of the Board of Regents at the University of Nebraska wanted to advance this same type of idea by allowing cremated remains at the U of Nebraska football stadium.
