CANA partners to offer “Deathcare Business Administration Certification”

To my knowledge there is not an MBA program in Funeral Directing or Death Care to be found anywhere in the United States.  However, through a partnership of Goalmakers and the Cremation Association of North America (CANA) individuals can participate in a 10-week interactive online program that will award successful participants a “CANA Deathcare Business Administration Certification”.

Instruction will be led in part by Deathcare industry professionals Bob Boetticher, Jr. and Doug Gober according to this information from Goalmakers.

According to that same information:

“The CANA Deathcare Business Administration Certification is a 10-week fully virtual program for both the current & future leaders of the deathcare industry to master the skills of organizational leadership, people management, & business finance.”

Goalmakers information states that the program will do the following for participants:

  1. Allow them to “Master People Management”
  2. Allow them to “Refine their Leadership”
  3. Allow them to “Grow their Bottom Line”

In addition to the certification, the Deathcare Business Administration course is eligible for 8 hours of continued education from the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice (APFSP).

Funeral Director Daily take:  I think that this course may be a great opportunity for those funeral directors who want to get into Death Care business management or move up to regional or national roles in the greater Death Care world.

CANA has a great reputation for building credentials in the Death Care sphere as evidenced by their well-received CANA Certified Cremation Specialist designation.  In my opinion, that certification has become the “go to” certification for those that want to operate high voume cremation operations.

If the CANA Deathcare Business Administration Certification comes anywhere close to the success of that program a CANA Deathcare Business Administration Certificate will become a positively-held asset to the participant’s career.

Barbara Kemmis, Executive Director of CANA, made a point with a recent comment in an e-mail when she said, “”Certification is more than a credential—it is a commitment to excellence and to the families we serve.”
