Chptr, iHeart Media, Tribute Technology work to get more media exposure for funeral homes

In a press release from Chptr, that you can access here, and also in a press release from Tribute Technology, that you can access here, we learned that Chptr partnered with iHeart Media to launch “Radio Obits”.   The service from Chptr is now integrated for the customers of Tribute Technology and will provide a service that “reaches a quarter of a billion monthly listeners through more than 90 percent of U.S. radio stations. More importantly for funeral homes, it makes broadcast media accessible without the cost, complexity, or expertise traditionally required to produce commercials, purchase airtime, and manage relationships with local stations.”

According to Chptr, “While Radio Obits is the first audio offering, it represents the beginning of a broader opportunity for funeral homes. Future offerings will allow firms to share educational messages, community stories, and other locally relevant content through podcasts, streaming audio, and additional formats as they become available.”

And according to Tribute Technology, “One year ago, Tribute Technology embedded Chptr’s broadcast memorial technology directly into its platform, making it possible for funeral homes to transform an obituary into a professionally produced television memorial announcement without leaving the system they already use every day. Today, that same integration includes nationwide radio distribution alongside television, giving funeral homes access to all 210 U.S. television markets and more than 90 percent of U.S. radio stations reaching a quarter of a billion monthly listeners, all without additional software, data entry, or training.”

J.B. Showalter, Senior Vice-President of Partnerships at Chptr, made these comments about the Chptr/Tribute Technology integration, “This is exactly what we look for in a partnership.  Tribute Technology already sits inside the daily workflow of thousands of funeral homes. Bringing our production platform, media partnerships, and nationwide television and radio distribution into that same workflow means families get a meaningful new way to share the news of a passing, without asking funeral professionals to change how they already serve families.”

Funeral Director Daily take:  I guess “What goes around, comes around” as they saying goes.  I learned the value of regularly getting my funeral home brand on cable television stations while advertising preneed and my voice, as our “brand voice,” on local radio with our company advertisements and obituary announcements.

Television watching has changed since those days with the decline of broadcast and cable channels and the advent and growth of streaming.  And, radio has also changed in its programming and reach during that time.  It is now very difficult for funeral homes and funeral directors to navigate the landscape of getting their media seen and heard.

It appears that is where Chptr, iHeart Radio, and the workflow  integration with Tribute Technology comes in.  Chptr expresses the ideal of building a distribution network for community storytelling and the integration with Tribute Technology’s existing platform can make it easy for funeral homes and funeral directors to get access to over 250 million radio listeners.
