Foundation Partners adds another acquisition

Acquisitions continue to be announced in the death care business.  It seems that there are a lot of businesses where the ownership is ready to transition out of the profession and there is an ever growing number of neighbor, regional, and national providers of funeral and cremation care that are intent on getting larger. In our opinion, not all acquisitions are good or beneficial to the continuing business.  We believe that acquisitions can be positive to the bottom line when […]

Could we have an LBO or Hostile Takeover in the Death Care Industry

One of the things that I find interesting about the death care industry is the continuing consolidation and spin-offs that seem to always occur.  Get a few funeral directors together and they are always talking about who is acquiring who. I’ve been around long enough to see upstart Prime Succession grow fast and then be courted by both the Loewen Group and Service Corporation International.  Loewen ended up with the company but could not fund the debt and Alderwoods was […]

Strategic Acquisitions Continue

Mergers and acquisitions in the death care space are nothing new and actually seem to be accelerating in not only the retail funeral home and cremation space but among suppliers as well.  Earlier this week we learned of Foundation Partners Group acquiring the Loyless Funeral Homes of Florida and we learned of Wilbert Funeral Services, Inc. (WFSI) moving ahead with due diligence to purchase assets of Astral Industries, manufacturer of Astral caskets. Foundation Partners Group —  You can read about […]

The Revenue Drop

While I did not attend the recent National Funeral Director’s Association gathering in Salt Lake City, I recently visited with an attendee about the gathering.  One of the things that this veteran funeral director told me was that he cannot remember a time when so many traditional funeral home owners talked about revenue declines and the havoc they could lead to in the traditional industry. We all know what is causing revenue declines — it is the continued growth of […]

News from Foundation Partners Group

I noticed a press release come out from Foundation Partners Group last week that announced the private funeral, cemetery and cremation operating company had made a purchase of the Healey Mortuary and Crematory in Salinas, California.  Checking more into that press release on the company’s web-site I came across two other stories about Foundation Partners continued expansion.  I noticed that they had purchased another funeral home in Wisconsin and had expanded to their 4th Funeral Alternatives of Washington location in […]
