So you thought your firm had a long history

Many of us are pretty proud, and rightfully so, that we have helped families in our communities cope with the death of a loved one for over 100 years and maybe are into our 3rd, 4th, or 5th generation of family service.  Funeral service is a noble profession and one that those of us who seem to thrive on being caretakers enjoy keeping in our family.

Just the other day I came across this article on family business success in the Telegraph from the United Kingdom.  It talks about the C.P.J. Field Funeral Home in that country.  Turns out that the Field family business is the 8th oldest family owned business in the United Kingdom — they started out 328 years ago in 1690 and now operate 30 locations across the region.  They are in their 10th generation of family operation.  You can learn more about them from their website here.

While the firm has been around for centuries they actually pride themselves on the innovations that they put into play.  At this point in the development of their brand they have introduced a fleet of electric powered hearses, online funeral planning, and social media services to help clients manage digital memories of a loved one.

When searching around their website make sure to click on the “News” link.  When I did so I learned about the C.P.J. Field “More than just a Funeral Exhibition”.  I found this an interesting way to find new clientele thru covering all aspects of end of life planning with others who may have a stake in the field.  Maybe it is something you should think of facilitating with your funeral home to build the brand and meet new potential clientele.
