Signs of the Time

Earlier today we released an article, “Is Now the Time”.  It dealt with the growing cost of waiting on projects that you might be planning for your funeral home or cemetery.

Since that article came out we have noticed two articles that were recently published that somewhat dealt with trends in the death care industry and what is happening with those trends.

The first you can read here is about Service Corporation International and their Dignity Memorial Network breaking ground yesterday for an event center in Cape Coral, Florida.  What is interesting is that the center will not be used only for funerals, memorial services and the like, but be open for weddings and receptions of all kinds for the community.  This is indeed a trend we see moving forward to provide a larger client base and more revenue to funeral service firms.

The second article, which you can read here,  is about a family funeral home in Ohio that has had its request for a crematory denied by the local planning commission.  This is also a trend we see where neighbors are not excited about having these type of operations, rightly or wrongly, in their proximity.  We see a trend whereas local funeral homes will have more and more difficulty in adding crematories to their existing businesses as we continue to move forward.  Our guess is that this trend will lead to funeral homes opting to place into service more alkaline hydrolysis, or water cremation, machines as time marches on and the consumer becomes more and more conscious about using them.
