The headline is not exactly what they say about the opera, but in these politically correct times, you understand what I am saying.  I’ll admit that I am pretty ignorant about the world of opera, but this week, if you have ever worked in the funeral or cemetery profession you would be interested in where Henry Purcell’s “Dido and Aeneas” is playing.

For four performances this week Purcell’s opera will be staged in the catacombs of the historic Green-Wood Cemetery of Brooklyn, New York.  The hour long opera, composed in the 1680’s will be performed in a 160 foot long brick tunnel inside a hillside in that cemetery.  And, in that tunnel, the remains of 30 families are held in burial vaults.  You can read more about this event here.

Producer Andrew Ousley says in the article that folding chairs with seating for 120 people will be set up and a platform near the rear of the catacombs will serve as the stage.
