Historic North Carolina funeral home burns down

We learned today of a funeral home fire in Bethel, North Carolina that occurred on the evening of Monday, January 13.  According to this news video and article from WITN Television, the Bethel location of Walker-Ayers Funeral Home was a complete loss due to the fire that was reported to firefighters at about 11:00 pm on Monday.  Firefighters battled the blaze until about 3:30 am.

The funeral home dates back to the 1890s.

In a Facebook post the funeral home is quoted, “Thank you to all the fire and rescue personnel who came out last night to battle the blaze at Walker-Ayers Chapel, our Bethel location.  We will continue to serve the communities we love through our Williamston and Windsor locations until our facility is rebuilt.  Please keep our family in your prayers.”

The WITN article states that no injuries were reported and that there was nobody inside at the time of the fire, living or deceased.
