First Greek crematory approved

Last week Environment and Energy Minister Giorgos Stathakis signed off paving the way for the first crematory to be installed in the country of Greece.  According to Athens Mayor Giorgos Kaminis this “will allow Greece to fulfill its commitment for upholding citizens’ rudimentary rights”.

According to the article, cremations were legalized in Greece in 2006, however the country still does not have any facilities where they can be carried out.

Facilities have now been approved in Thessaloniki and Patra as well as in Athens.
